Absentee Ballot Applications

Completed applications may be mailed, faxed, scanned and e-mailed or hand delivered to the town clerk’s office.  We will mail the absentee ballots as soon as they are available.  The last day completed absentee ballots can be received in person is the day before the election.  If absentee ballots are returned in person they MUST be handed to the town clerk or deputy town clerk ONLY.  2016 absentee ballot application  Track your absentee ballot or check your party affiliation: http://app.sos.nh.gov.

December 1 – Planning Board Public Hearing on Subdivision Regulations

The Pittsfield Planning Board will hold a public hearing on amendments to the board’s subdivision regulations and to the board’s site plan review regulations. The time and place of the public hearing is Thursday, December 1, 2016, 7:00 PM, at the Pittsfield Town Hall, 85 Main Street, Pittsfield, NH. Dr. Forest B. Argue Memorial Pool

About the Dr. Forest B Argue Memorial Pool….
This three acre park located within walking distance of many homes in Pittsfield serves as the Town Pool. If features two pavilions suitable for group picnics, arts and crafts, picnics a recently refurbished snack bar/bathroom building. The pool is managed by the Pittsfield Park and Recreation Commission and is open seven days a week during the summer months. A fishing derby, ice skating and other similar events are scheduled during the year.

The park was donated to the town by the Pittsfield Rotary in 1961 in memory of Dr. Forest B. Argue, MD. This pond was previously known as Clarks Pond being used as a mill pond. The pond was dredged, a new dam built, fencing erected about the perimeter of the pond area and a new bath house was erected.

Dustin Park

Located on Main Street this 1 acre park formerly known as Academy Park was deeded to the town of Pittsfield by Herbert Dustin in 1948. The Gazebo was dedicated in 1918, replacing a wooden structure. The Gazebo was given by Frank P Green. The gazebo is used for concerts in the park during the summer months. A Civil War statue was dedicated in 1890 in memory of the Soldiers and Sailors who served in the Civil War from Pittsfield. In 1974 a monument was erected in the front of the Park commemorating all those who served in World War I & II, Korea and Vietnam. The park is under the jurisdiction of the Parks & Recreation Commission.

Infant Toddler Diaper Pantry

The Infant Toddler Diaper Pantry  opened in January, 2013 and are excited that we are able to offer supplemental diapers and wipes to anyone that needs them to families in Pittsfield and our surrounding towns.  We are open the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month from 9-11 AM at the First Congregational Church, 24 Main Street, Pittsfield.  Please use the Chestnut Street entrance. We welcome all donations of any size diapers or wipes.  Thank you!

November 18 – Pittsfield Police Association Fundraiser

The Pittsfield Police Association is sponsoring the “Night of Laughs” Comedy Show on Friday, November 18 at 7:30 PM at the Dell-Lea Country Club in Chichester.  The suggested donation is 10.00 per person at the door. Proceeds from this year’s fundraiser will go towards the youth programs that are supported by the Pittsfield Police Association.

Swimming

Because so many parents have asked, we will be having a third session of swim lessons beginning on August 4, 2014. If you want to register your child/children for these lessons, ask the gate keeper at the Town Beach. The last class for the night session will also be held on Monday, August 4th.

The Parks and Recreation Commission would like to thank all of the parents for their support this season. Thank you also to Mrs. Adams for reading a day or two a week. She has been sharing The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe with all interested listeners. We are also continuing with our daily activities during the week. We will make bugs again on Monday, August 4. We have a duck hunt on Tuesday, Airhead Bingo on Wednesday, Games on Thursday, and Sand Castle Building on Friday. Come down and join in the fun!

The recreation area will be open through August 23, 2014. Watch for information about pool day.

There will be activities during the summer which will be advertised at the recreation area. At this point we are planning Arts and Crafts on some Mondays, Duck Hunt on Tuesday, Airhead Bingo on Wednesday from 2:30- 3:30, Game Day( card games, checkers, yatzee, mancala, Candy Land, etc) on Thursday, and Sand Castle building to be judged on Friday at 3:00.

The daily admission for residents is $0.75 per person or a family season pass can be bought for $40. Daily admission for non-residents is $1.00 per person. All persons entering the area will be expected to pay. Children under 5 years old will be admitted free with a paid adult.

Swimming Lessons

We will be offering swimming lessons again this summer. Registration for swimming lessons will be held at the recreation area from 12-5 the week of June 24. We will run two 2 week sessions (a third session may be offered pending enrollment). You will find more information about swimming lessons on the registration form.

The cost for the swimming lessons for residents is $10 per child, not to exceed $30 per family. The cost for non-residents is $25 per child not to exceed $75.

To register your child for swimming lessons please bring the form below to the F.B. Argue Recreation Area or contact the Forest B Argue Recreation Area at 435-7457 with questions.

Thank you to all the support we have received from parents this summer. We pride ourselves on being a safe and happy environment for your children to enjoy throughout the summer. Our lifeguards are on duty from 12:00- 5:00 on weekdays. We are completing our first set of swimming lessons and will be starting our night time set of lesson next week. There will be no night swimming except for lessons the weeks of July 20th and July 27th. If you have not heard about times for your child’s lessons please check in at the pool area. With warm weather, we have had great attendance so far. Because so many parents had asked for weekend hours, we are open on Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00. Please plan on using the pool area with your families on these days. You could even bring a grill and have a cookout. On Saturday, July 19, after the parade we will be open for free swimming and will be sponsoring a cookout as part of Old Home Day. For $2 you will be able to get a hamburger/cheeseburger or hot dog, chips and a drink. If you have any concerns, comments, or questions please contact Minni at the pool area. So, come down and join us for some family fun! We look forward to seeing you!

Town Crier for November 6

The Friends of the Josiah Carpenter Library are sponsoring a plant sale of locally grown poinsettias from Ledgeview Greenhouses of Loudon.  Stop by the Carpenter Library, during regular business hours, to place your order. Orders will be taken through Nov. 7th.  Plants will be delivered in early December.

We are offering all three colors in your choice of a 6 ½” pot 1 plant ($10), a 7 ½” pot- 2 plants ($16.75), an 8 ½”pot – 3 plants ($19.75), or a 10” pot- 4 plants ($24).

The Pittsfield Fire Department is sponsoring the Secret Santa program.  This program assists approximately 200 children (ages birth – 14) in our community.  Toys, a warm outfit and any needed winter outerwear is provided to the children.  The program runs on donations – new, unwrapped toys or clothing can be dropped off at the fire station by Nov. 15.  Monetary donations (payable to Pittsfield Secret Santa) are gladly accepted also.  For more information, contact Kris at the Fire Dept at 435-6807.

The Victory Workers 4-H Club will hold their monthly meeting on Monday, Nov. 7 at 6:45pm at the Community Center, lower level.

The American Legion Peterson Cram Post 75 will hold their monthly meeting on Mon. Nov. 7 at 7pm at the Post Home on Loudon Rd.

Crafters and vendors are still needed for the 14th Annual Holiday Fair sponsored by the Pittsfield Girl’s Basketball team on Sat, Nov. 19 from 9-2pm at the PMHS gym.  Please contact Heidi Hall at heidihall32@yahoo.com for more information and registration forms.

Mark your calendar! The Dorcas Guild of the First Congregational Church, 24 Main Street, is holding its annual Christmas Fair and Bake Sale Saturday, November 19, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.   There are many handmade items to choose from as well as gourmet products, baked goods, “Unique Boutique” and the wonderful silent auction. Corn chowder and sandwich lunch with homemade pies will also be available. Plan to be there for this handcraft goldmine!    Since the Dorcas Guild will NOT be holding its annual Craft Fair this year, final silent auction bids are due in no later than Sunday, December 4, 12:30-2:30, when the auction will end and the successful bidders will be notified.    Plenty of free parking in the rear (enter on Chestnut Street), and the church is wheelchair accessible. St Stephen’s Annual Holly Fair will be held on Saturday Nov 19th from 9-2 in the undercroft of St Stephen’s, 50 Main St  beside Dustin Park. Our Holly Fair features many handcrafted holiday decorations: wreaths, centerpieces and various sizes of snowmen and reindeer constructed from birch logs. We have a bake sale as well as breakfast and lunch offerings in our cafe. A large silent auction features many interesting and antique collectibles.

The Pittsfield Players will be hosting an open house on Sat, Nov. 12 from 2-4pm to celebrate the completion of the sprinkler system that everyone worked so hard on raising funds for.  The Scenic Theatre, Depot Street, will be open to the public for a free tour of the first and second floor and the newly renovated lobby.  There will be free light refreshments, t-shirts and sweatshirts for sale and ticket sales for the Fall production, “Oklahoma!”

The Pittsfield Players present “Oklahoma!” on Nov. 11, 12, 18 19 at 7:30pm and Nov. 13 at 2pm at the Scenic Theatre on Depot Street.  Tickets are $17 per person and may be purchased by visiting the Players’ website  www.pittsfieldplayers.com and clicking on the Ticketleap button or by calling 435-8852- please spell your last name s part of your message.

The General Election polls will be open at the Town Hall from 7:00am – 7:00pm.  Get out and VOTE!!!

Pittsfield Elementary School is hosting a Veteran’s Day Assembly on Thursday, November 10 at 8:15 a.m. in the school gymnasium. Parents, community members, and veterans are welcome to attend.

The Budget Committee will meet on Wed, Nov. 9 at 7pm at the Town Hall.
