Town Crier for October 9

Mark your calendars – on Wed, Oct. 12 at 7pm, the Historical Society will present “Cider – New Hampshire’s “Official” Beverage”.    Celebrate with us the history of cider in New England and our own local Cider Mill.  Laurie Houle will have films of the local mill in operation. Bring your favorite recipes, photographs and memories to share with other cider lovers.  Refreshments featuring cider will be served.  The meeting will be held at the Undercroft at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 50 Main Street.

On Tuesday, October 11 at 12:30 PM at the Senior Center – Dana Sansom, an Associate Professor at UNH for Horticulture Technology, will be teaching a flower arrangement class.  She will give ideas on how to make seasonal and beautiful flower groupings using silk and dried flowers.  If you have a small basket and items that you would like to use you can bring them to the class. Otherwise some items will be provided.  The demonstration is immediately after lunch so come in for lunch and stay for the class.

The Pittsfield Youth Workshop  will hold Drop-In hours Tues – Fri from 3-6pm- Monday is a no school day and an all day trip of Outdoor Rock Climbing is planned.  A few highlights for the week include:  Tues- Paint Along with Sheila, Wed – Cooking Matters Class from 3:30-5:30pm –   Anne Dunn from The University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension will teach the basics of COOKING AND HEALTHY EATING in FREE Hands-On Cooking Classes. The youth will practice preparing dinners, lunches, snacks, and breakfast. All meals are healthy, low cost, and tasty; Thursday – Arts & Crafts – Make your own Glitter Slime/paint.  For more information, contact Zach Powers or Paula Martel at 435-8272.

The Pittsfield Youth Workshop Board of Directors will meet on Wed, Oct. 12 at 6:15pm at the Workshop, 5 Park Street.

The PHS Alumni Association will meet on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 6:30pm at the High School.  Anyone that has attended or graduated from Pittsfield Middle High School is a member of the Alumni Association.  We would love to have new members come to some meetings!  For more information, contact Andi Riel at 435-6346 or pittsfieldtowncrier@hotmail.com.

The Greater Pittsfield Chamber of Commerce and The Barnstead Area Women In Business Group are sponsoring a Meet and Greet on October 17th from 6:30 to 8:00p.m. This event is an opportunity for local businesses and community organizations to introduce themselves to others in the area or enhance current relationships during this casual, conversation based meeting. All local area businesses, community organizations and other interested parties are invited. This FREE event will be at and hosted by Main Street Grill and Bar, 32 Main Street, Pittsfield. The South Pittsfield Community Club will hold a Turkey Supper on Sat, Oct. 22 from 5-6:30pm at the SPCC Clubhouse, Dowboro Rd.  The price for the meal is $10 -Adults and $5-Children (6-12).

Fall 1,000 Books before Kindergarten Celebration will be held at the Pittsfield community Center October 12th from 6:30-7:30 pm. Parents in the community have signed up 53 of their children aged 5 and under to participate in a state wide initative to read 1,000 boks before entering Kindergarten. Have you received your book bag, notebook and free book yet? Have you read 100 or more books? Registered participants are invited to a Curious George Birthday party celebration where parents and children who have read 100 books or more will be recognized. Storytime, craft and birthday cake included. For more information, contact the library at 435-8406.

On Thursday, October 13, at 10:00 AM, the Senior Center will sponsor a program, “Brain Health” by Christine Lauer. Christine is a Registered Dietician (RD) who works at the Catholic Medical Center (CMC) in Manchester.  The Brain is one of the most important and complex organs we have and keeping it healthy is critical; especially as we age.  This class provides education, nutritional tips, and support for a brain healthy lifestyle to improve  a number of conditions such as Alzheimer’s, ADHD, autism, anxiety, and depression.  These sessions are normally $19.00 per person and we are offering them FREE. It is never to early to worry about brain health! The class is in the room upstairs in the community center above the senior center. Please call 435-8482 if planning on attending space is limited.

Cat Faulkner will be at the Senior Center on Tuesday October 18, at 10:30 am. Cat is a professional singer that combines the traditional jazz style with a new and exciting interpretation of the American Songbook which was made famous by artists, Ella Fitzgerald, Rosemary Clooney, and Billie Holiday. You may be familiar with the iconic songs of that era that include, “It had to be you”, “Night and Day” & “My Romance”. Please come and enjoy the music and have lunch with us. It is the soup and salad bar. Call 435-8482 to make your reservations.
